The need for Zera
Timi Obisesan is a banker, humanitarian and social innovator. The need for Zera was borne out of a need to connect those who have with those who do not have. Having volunteered with multiple non-profit organizations, Timi realised that there were many ways to reach out to those in need without necessarily giving out money.
The power of giving back
Zera is founded on the ideal that everyone has something to share with someone. He also realized that those who have items to give may not know those who need them or may not trust them enough to release items to them. With the support of his co-founder and friends, Zera was incorporated and developed to help discover friends, build trust and help others freely.
My first thoughts
The CEO of Zera approached me with an idea - to connect people through the exchange of books. While his enthusiasm was contagious, I couldn’t help but feel that something vital was missing. “Books are wonderful!,” I exclaimed, but what about the basic necessities of life? Food, clothing, shelter... and the likes?
Isaiah 61...
You see, while growing up, I didn’t experience any personal hardship but my heart was drawn to those who did. From a young age, I found fulfilment in helping those in adversity or lack, rooted in the teachings of Isaiah 61.
To truly help people...
So, when Timi told me about his idea for Zera, I saw it as more than an idea but an opportunity to amplify the spirit of giving, to truly help people in the lives of those who needed it most. And thus, my journey with Zera began fueled by collectively solving real-world common problems with one act of kindness at a time.
